Bathroom Construction Campaign

Bathroom Construction Campaign

In June 2008, the SOHO China Foundation learned through developing the Children's Virtues Project, that many school bathrooms were old and falling apart. Sanitary conditions were poor, with many bathrooms without running water for washing hands, or even falling apart and caving in. Some buildings were only meeting C or D level sanitary standards. Many female students were developing gynecological illnesses due to lack of sanitation standards, and due to poor sanitary habits.

As cleanliness was one of the virtues stressed by our Children's Virtues program, SOHO China undertook the Bathroom Construction Campaign in tandem with the Children's Virtues Project. The Project began in July 2008 and by June 2011, the construction of 45 bathrooms was completed, improving bathroom facilities for 35,000 children.
